Everything Coming to NBCUniversal’s Peacock Streaming Service

NBCUniversal has officially entered the streaming wars with the announcement of its new digital platform, called Peacock, which is slated to drop in April 2020.In order to better compete with streaming giants Netflix, Amazon, and the upcoming Disney+ and HBO Max, Peacock will develop its own lineup of original programming, like Mr. Robot showrunner Sam Esmail’s reboot of Battlestar Galactica, and a sequel to Saved By the Bell featuring original cast members Elizabeth Berkley and Mario Lopez.

Peacock will also be the exclusive home to stream The Office, which is leaving Netflix in 2021, along with a myriad of movies from the Universal Pictures and Focus Features library, including Back to the Future, Shrek, and the Jason Bourne franchise.

“The name Peacock pays homage to the quality content that audiences have come to expect from NBCUniversal,” explained Bonnie Hammer, Chairman of Direct-to-Consumer and Digital Enterprises. “Whether it’s culture-defining dramas from innovative creators like Sam Esmail, laugh-out-loud comedies from legends like Lorne Michaels and Mike Schur, blockbusters from Universal Pictures, or buzzy unscripted programming from the people who do it best at Bravo and E!,”

While no pricing information has been revealed, Peacock will launch as both an advertising and subscription-supported service. What are you most excited to see when Peacock launched in April 2020? Let us know in the comments below.
